Islay Photo Memories

October 11, 2026 by ron

I’m not old enough to write memoires, nor will I ever make the effort. But going through my thousands of Islay Photos these last weeks I decided to do something else… I’m going to write just my Islay Memoires from my Islay Memories, but not just a big chunk of text for anyone to read but by showing many photos combined with my thoughts and stories from my time on Islay, both as visitor and as resident. After all, my relationship with Islay is now in its 23rd year and covered almost a third of my life.

Scrolling through the thousands of photos gave me immense pleasure and at the same time I realised that already, after ten to twenty years, many things have changed. It also triggered my memory as quite a few things were somewhere hidden in the dark corners of my mind and others still very vividly present.

From now on, every now and then when I find some time I’ll scroll through another year of photos and see what comes up. Which photos I post online and what stories I can come up with. It’s going to be an interesting voyage for me and my family and with the long nights of winter coming up I think I can make quite good progress.

My Islay Photo Memories can be found under the domain name www.islay-photos.com and I hope you’ll enjoy the many photos and scribbles as much as I did when I was working on them. Thanks for visiting.

A Personal Note

This website is not an (un)official Islay Tourism initiative in any way. It’s a place where I write about my own personal experiences, trips, walks, meetings and share some articles for which I’ve been given permission personally to publish them.

The photos are all taken by myself and can be purchased by making an enquiry directly to me.
